With the rugby season in full swing, it is no surprise that many players from across the world are making their mark. Here are seven Bay of Quinte products who made the grade.
The first round of this championship saw the Loyalist Lancers in action, as well the Kingston St. Lawrence Vikings. The Peterborough Fleming Knights were also present, as was the Oakville Sheridan Bruins. However, a handful of the big names are on the wrong side of the draw. Even the Loyalists didn't manage to crack the scoreboards during the initial stages.
In terms of the most coveted trophy, the top honours go to the man who's name is emblazoned on the top of the Loyalists's shirt. James Lowe is a former Leinster stalwart and has many points to his name.

Other than a fight with the winger, there was a few noteworthy performances by the region's top guns. In particular, the Loyalists' scout hat was a sight to behold, albeit one that may not be for the faint of heart. Even though it wasn't a home run for the team, it was still an impressive achievement.
The Loyalists new entrant did not have many missteps. Britt Whiting's stunning score and Christine Vandertoorn’s incredible score are two of the highlights. Amanda Blair's display was however the best. Although she was the recipient of the OCAA female rugby player of the week award, it was the kicking game that won the day. Blair took advantage the icy wind and kicked three penalty kicks. She also won the player award for the week.
There were many impressive feats that could be found in both the men's and ladies' leagues of the OCAA. Although it is not unusual for teams to be named "Jackson", or "Jake", they may be best left behind. The likes of "George North" and "George Davidson" were forced to miss Round 2 with injury, while the "Geoff Farrar" and "Gabe Davidson" stayed home for the win. The Vikings, as well as the Lancers, each won. Names of other contestants remain a mystery.
However, in the OCAA men's leagues, it's a different story. Despite the fact that the reigning champions are currently on a losing streak the Vikings, Lancers and Lancers have proven to the OCAA they are not restricted to Kingston. The scores they have accumulated this season show that they have made significant moves. They have a chance to finish in the top four and win the top spot, even though they are only a few rounds in. If they keep their heads up, they will be back in the winners circle when they reach the finals next year.

It's safe to assume the other OCAA male league contenders will be vying for the title.

What is the best way to start base jumping?
Base jumping, also known as free-fall parachute, is a sport that involves participants leaping from fixed objects (usually cliffs), like bridges, towers or buildings without any equipment. To safely land, the participant jumps from the object. It's similar to skydiving but you don’t have to wear a parachute or hold your breath as you wait to open it.
The most common type is a wingsuit jumping suit. A wingsuit is two pieces of fabric joined together. One piece covers the chest and arms, and the second piece covers the legs. Special boots allow the jumper to stand straight during flight. Jumpers pull the straps that attach to their feet tightly during descent. The material covering the legs will bunch up and create a large pocket under the body. When this air pocket becomes big enough, the jumper opens his/her parachute and lands safely.
To propel themselves higher in the air, some base jumpers use powered suits. A backpack containing batteries and an under-cloth jet pack are the two main components of powered suits. These packs have small rockets that can shoot hot gases at high speeds. This creates a thrust that propels the jumper forward. These suits can be noisy and heavy.
BASE jumping is a sport that many people don't understand. If you decide to learn how to BASE jump, make sure you understand the risks involved. You could fall off a cliff or hit an obstacle upside-down or head-on. Or you could collide with another jumper. BASE jumping may not be always dangerous but it can still prove dangerous if done incorrectly. You can avoid injury by following these safety tips before trying to BASE jump.
Practice safe BASE jumping techniques starting on a small hill. Before jumping from a bigger hill, you should take a few moments to become familiar with the terrain. You should also be alert for weather conditions. You should not jump when the wind blows in your face. Also, be careful of foggy skies; if you can see more than 10ft ahead of yourself, you might need to wait until the clouds clear. You should also ensure you have the correct gear. Make sure you have a helmet, goggles, gloves, and a full suit with a harness. Fourth, have a plan. If something goes wrong, ask someone to help you. Never jump by yourself. Always have someone else watching over you.
